Class Description:

This month, Switchtext (he/him) and xrae (she/her) will share the mantis harness.

The Mantis prayer hands harness (get it, praying mantis?)  is a comfortable hug of a suspendible harness. It is solid for a range of suspension applications as well as very functional for ground work.

It’s a recommended go to for a bottom’s first suspension, as it’s almost always very comfortable, and it’s like you are hugging yourself, so it’s physically less vulnerable feeling than other chest harness options.

We will review the pattern of the tie, and some details that matter to it’s success.  We will also cover some handy permutations of this harness to adapt for various bodies, and suspension types. We will then demonstrate how to load and suspend it for students who are currently able to suspend. As always we will take the opportunity to share some rope handling techniques that can be shared along the way.

Prerequisites and Equipment:

Some basic knowledge of frictions and wrap tension, ability to tie other chest harnesses will be helpful.

Have 3 x 8 meter ropes for harness and any hardware and up lines for suspension if you plan to suspend. 

About the Instructors:

xrae (she/her)

xrae has been bottoming in rope and active in the community for about four years. She enjoys cons, classes, parties, and everything in between and loves connecting with others and herself through rope.

Switchtext (he/him)

Switchtext is a designer and a co-founder and creative director of Studio Friction. He is more interested in sensations and understanding the elements of rope bondage than mastering someone’s specific pattern. Switchtext has been tying for 14 years. He has learned so much in that time and enjoys knowing he has so much more to learn.

Important Registration Information:

• All attendees must register and pay online, no admittance or registration at the door.
• Photo ID is required to be admitted and must match the name listed in your online registration.
• You must be 19 years of age or older to attend events at Studio Friction.
• No refunds or credits on cancellations within 24 hours of event (contact us for extenuating circumstances - if you are sick, please stay home).

• All attendees must sign a COVID waiver as part of online registration and submit to a symptom check including a no touch temperature check.
• Mask optional with proof of full COVID vaccination (e.g. CDC COVID Vaccination Card - original card, clear photograph or photocopy, CIIS immunization record, myVaccine in the myColorado app). The name on your vaccine documentation must match the name on your photo ID. 
• • Full vaccination is defined as a minimum of two weeks post 2nd dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
  • You only have to show your vaccination record once. Feel free to email it to office@studiofriction.com ahead of the event if you prefer. We will not be making any copies, just marking that it was checked.
• Members who are not fully vaccinated, are unvaccinated, or do not wish to show proof of vaccination are still welcome at Studio Friction, but will be asked to wear a mask at all times when in the space.
