Why would anyone want to hang from hooks? What does it feel like? What draws people to it? And how do you know whether the people putting hooks in your body are practicing safely?

Whether you’re fascinated by the practice, curious about the "why," or wondering if suspension might be for you, come get a closer look at hook suspension in this demonstration and audience-driven Q+A.

Facilitated by Divergent Denver, the session will begin with a hook suspension demonstration, followed by a panel featuring the suspension practitioners, who bring a diversity of perspectives and experiences as both suspendees and practitioners. The panel will be driven by audience questions, giving you the chance to ask about what you just witnessed as well as the experiences, choices, sensations, and considerations involved before, during, and after suspension.

We’ll dig into why people choose to suspend, what they get from the experience, and the physical, emotional, and relational dimensions of the practice. We’ll also explore risk-aware practices, including piercing practices, equipment, hygiene and antiseptic practices, communication, consent, and aftercare.

This is not a training in piercing, rigging, or suspension. We will not teach you how to perform hook suspension on yourself or someone else. Instead, this is a chance to get curious, ask questions, watch the process, and learn what informed participation can look like.

Divergent Denver is a local hook suspension group founded and facilitated by Miss Alex. Meeting monthly, the group creates space for people to explore and engage with suspension while centering the experiences and needs of kinky, queer, and BIPOC communities. The group welcomes people of all identities and backgrounds, while intentionally creating space where queer and BIPOC experiences are centered and supported.
