Playful Self-Suspension

Class Description:

This class is for individuals looking to take their self-suspension to the next level! You know your uplines and a basic hip harness and chest harness, but what's next? Self suspension can be used to achieve many goals, whether that's challenging yourself, spinning upside down, or feeling beautiful and powerful in the air. In this class we'll explore ways to incorporate more movement, play, and experimentation into your self suspension.

We'll cover fast and easy ties to get quickly off the ground and into the air to fast track those endorphins and thrill that we love. We'll also learn quick, yet supportive harnesses (such as gunslingers and gravity boots) for tying marionette-style suspensions that allow for maximum movement.

Beyond the ties themselves, we will also discuss the intricacies and safety concerns around dynamic self-suspensions, including spotting, and the pros and cons of tying more or less rope.

Prerequisites and Equipment:

• This is not an intro class and participants should have some suspension experience and basic up-line management skills.
  
• While not required, participants may bring one non-tying "spotter" partner to observe and support them during the class.
  
• Suspension gear (i.e. ring, rigging plate, carabiners, etc.)
  
• Safety gear (such as shears or other cutting tool)
  
• Enough rope for tying at least a chest harness, hip harness, and 1-2 additional single columns
  
• 4-5 synthetic load lines are recommended
  

About the Instructor:

Marilyn (she/her)

Marilyn first entered the Denver rope community in 2019. She first started self-tying as a way to maintain her rope skills after moving during the pandemic, but she quickly fell in love with the playful, energetic, and dynamic nature of it. She is happy to be back in Denver and loves how much the self-tying community has grown since she left!

Marilyn identifies as a queer, polyamorous, kinky switch. She loves all things rope, whether that's tying others, tying herself, or letting others tie her sometimes too. She's passionate about relationship anarchy, arguing the semantics of language, and the value of building connections and community.

Important event information:

• Please arrive on time or a bit early so that we can get started promptly.
• Studio friction membership is required to attend to enable us to maintain our 501(c)7 non-profit status (per the IRS we can only earn 30% of our income from non-members). If you're not a member, but interested in attending, consider joining us. Membership starts at $10 per month non-recurring.
• Masks are not required with proof of vaccination as long as Denver community level remains medium to low. If Denver's level goes back up to high - we will require masks for all members, per CDC recommendation. Masks are always required for unvaccinated individuals.
• Registration & payment required online in advance.
• Bring a photo ID that matches the name listed in your online registration for admittance.
• No refunds or credits on cancellations within 24 hours of event (contact office@studiofriction.com with extenuating circumstances)
• You must be at least 19 years old to attend events at Studio Friction.
