About the class:

There are a variety of futomomo patterns that can be used for suspension and floor work. Most folks learn the spiral futomomo initially. We hope that this class will give you some additional tools to reach for to achieve your desired result. This harness medley will cover the TK style futomomo (taught by maxyisfast) and the Hyper futomomo (taught by pandoradreams).

The TK style futomomo gives more consistent results than the spiral futo pattern that many of you may know. The TK style only has 2 bands but still the same 4 wraps most often tied in the spiral pattern. Because the bands are always tied in the same place, very close together, it is easier to place them in a consistent way so that you know how they will behave. In contrast, the spiral has more of a tendency to hit hot spots on the leg, or to load unevenly in suspension. This pattern is not necessarily more comfortable than the spiral futo, it hurts, but it’s always predictable, and thus generally more sustainable.

The hyper futomomo is very different from both the TK style and spiral futo patterns. It is also often much more comfortable for rope bottoms. It uses an abundance of rope to mitigate the discomfort issues inherent in other futo patterns. Rope WILL be in a bad spot, but there’s so much that no particular rope noticeably causes pain in one specific location. The key to this pattern is tension. If your tension is uneven, it will negate the benefits of the tie, because it will not load evenly. This particular pattern is a great one to use as a drill to improve your tension.

Prerequisites: Students should know a non-collapsing single column tie. Basic knowledge of tension, frictions will be helpful. This class is self-tie friendly!
