Start Here: Foundations of Rope Bondage

with Smitten_ and Switchtext

If you live too far from the studio to come to curriculum classes, or are otherwise unable to come to a weekly class? This is the intensive for you. Lots of great content in one day! Drive in, make a day of it and drive home.

About the class:

In this intensive Switchtext and Smitten will orient you to the Studio Friction space and get you started on your rope journey. With 6 hours of tying and getting all of your burning questions answered, this a great place to jump start your rope bondage experience.

The morning session will cover the areas of consent, negotiation and safety, vetting potential partners and studio/venue etiquette. We will discuss the setting of a scene, and will cover the many different types of rope you can use in rope bondage.

For the afternoon portion, we will spend the day learning beginner rope patterns and foundational techniques that you can take home and enjoy immediately. We will challenge you from both the perspective of tying or being tied, teaching ties such as single and double column, bunny ears, reverse tension chest harness, basic futomomo and the first rope of a 3 rope TK.

For this class, no experience is necessary. You will need 3 lengths of rope (about 8 meter each), yoga mats or similar, and a blanket may be nice. There will be some treated jute bondage rope available for purchase at the class.  

Schedule:

10am - 1pm Class including discussion and tying

1pm - 2pm Lunch

2pm - 5pm Practical tying instruction

Smitten_

Smitten has completed 5 levels of curriculum at Studio Friction and has been tying and teaching curriculum courses with Switchtext for the last year and a half. She also attends community classes and rope cons whenever possible. Smitten_ loves teaching and introducing new folks to rope and embraces rope for it’s unique connective qualities and unlimited creativity.

Switchtext is a designer and a co-founder and creative director of Studio Friction. He is more interested in sensations and understanding the elements of rope bondage than mastering someone’s specific pattern. Switchtext has been tying for 14 years. He has learned so much in that time and enjoys knowing he has so much more to learn. 

IMPORTANT, for our friends safety and health:

• All attendees must register and pay online to reduce exposure for our volunteers at the door

• All attendees must sign a covid waiver and submit to a symptom check including a no touch temperature check

• All attendees must wear masks in the studio at all times per the Colorado state mandate

• Please bring your own mat and rope, mats and rope will not be available from the studio

• The studio will be disinfected after each event, and commonly touched surfaces will be cleaned during the event

• Hand sanitizer and surface sanitizer will be available thru out the studio
