Class Description:

Talking from the Bottom: Exploring verbal and non-verbal communication in rope

When asked what they want most from tying partners, rope tops will often say, “good communication.” But what does that mean? What does it look like in action for those of us who get tied? What happens if you can’t be verbal? What happens if things suddenly feel too “clinical” with all that communication?!

In this all levels class, Mx Whiskey Ginger will explore how people who get tied can engage in effective communication in rope play, rope practice, and beyond.

As a group, we will discuss how to navigate clear, direct, and authentic check-ins to create fulfilling collaboration before, during, and after tying. Come prepared to dig into individual questions about how to find your voice while in rope and strategies to sustain healthy communication in long term rope relationships.

While oriented to PIR (people in rope), this class is open to anyone interested in rope: tying, being tied, or both! Folks who are primarily interested in tying or who already tie are strongly encouraged to join us. As someone who ties, you may often find yourself in risky situations in which you will have to interpret complex signals or non-verbal communication from the people you tie. Let’s work on this together!

No experience in rope is required.

This is a virtual class - please come prepared with a water bottle, snacks, a pen, and paper.

About The Presenter:

Mx Whiskey Ginger (they/them) has been a “person in rope” (PIR) since 2015 and works as a personal coach helping people navigate self acceptance, gender, sexuality, trauma processing, communication skill building, mindfulness, and co-creating unique nourishing relationship dynamics, both kinky and otherwise. Whiskey holds a degree in Multicultural Counseling with a minor in Mind/Body Studies and studied Somatic Counseling Psychology and Body Psychotherapy at Naropa University. You will usually find Whiskey in the middle of reading 6+ books about everything to do with community accountability and healing processes, attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology, and polyvagal theory and nervous system regulation, and more. After beginning to explore kink and making a lot of their own mistakes in rope they developed a class called “So you want to get tied up?” to help others avoid some of the pitfalls, violations, trauma, and injuries they experienced. They have also created Very Engaged Rope Bottoming, or VERB, a monthly discussion group specifically for people in rope to have a space where they could talk, ask questions freely about their experiences in rope, support each other, and openly express their wants/needs/desires in a welcoming peer environment. Whiskey held the Mx Wild West Olympus Leather 2018 title and is honored being a part of their local and national Leather and rope communities through coaching, volunteering, demo bottoming, performing, and teaching. Whiskey is passionate about helping others navigate the nuances of rope and kink in an informed, healthful, mindful, nourishing, and risk aware manner.
