To minimize the inequities and financial barriers to rope bondage education, and to increase engagement and participation of a diversity of participants, Studio Friction is able to offer two tuition grant per 3-course succession of Beginner 1, Beginner 2 and Intermediate 1. This is a 3 course, 3 month series with the goal to educate students from their very first single column knot to their first suspension. A Wrapped membership - providing discounted access to other Studio Friction events - is included for all grantees. This is a limited opportunity of 6 to 10 grants per year based on Studio Friction curriculum program scheduling availability.
Minimum Qualifications
Application must be filled out completely and on time
Student must agree to meet attendance and practice time requirements for the full 3 course (12 week) series
Individuals must agree to sign and comply with the Studio Friction Code of Conduct
Disqualifying Criteria
Individuals previously placed on a membership hold, limited membership or membership ban will not be accepted.
Applications that are not filled out completely or not submitted within the application deadline will not be accepted
To continue in the grant program, the courses must be taken in succession.
Individuals may lose their grant status if they miss more than 1 class per course of the 3 course series.
Progression to the Beginner 2 and Intermediate 1 courses are based on successful completion of each previous course as deemed by your course instructor.
How to Apply
Fill out the Studio Friction Grant Application that will be linked to each Beginner 1 class registration when scheduled on the Studio Friction event page.
All applications will be assessed for completeness and minimum qualifications being met. Those applications that meet the qualifying criteria will be accepted. Accepted applications will then be evaluated to determine grantees.
All applicants must have their applications submitted 7 days prior to the class start-date they are applying for.
If multiple qualifying applications are accepted, we will prioritize applicants who experience historical and present-day marginalization and oppression.
If there are still multiple accepted applicants, we will conduct a lottery to randomly allocate spots in an impartial manner. You can read about the lottery system process here.
If you are not accepted in the round you are applying for, you may apply again for a later course date.
If you are not accepted for the class round you applied for, we will notify you with an email.
What is not covered
If Granted, you will be responsible for bringing:
Your own rope kit - this is a graduated expense with equipment needs that increase as the courses progress. Recommendations for amounts of rope, rope types, and other necessary and useful equipment can be found here.
A cutting tool is also required. Check the link above for recommendations.
A willing and actively consenting partner
Comfortable clothing
A water bottle and some snacks
Your time - this is a time commitment that requires attendance and practice that is rewarded with skills, new friends and lots of silly antics!
